Modular Course in Cheminformatics @ IBAB

With the emergence of bioinformatics as in interdisciplinary area of research and teaching, the need for trained professionals with a high quality education that equip them with expertise in both biological and computational sciences to meet the growing demand in both academia and life science industry has become imperative. Under the Centre of Excellence program initiated by Department of Information Technology, Government of India, from time to time IBAB will be offering a number of modules in bioinformatics and related areas to impart expertise in
specific areas. These will be open to fresh graduates as well as working professionals.
A Modular Course in Cheminformatics (July 1–July 31, 2008)
Participants: This course is intended for research students working in the broad area of bioinformatics, computational chemistry and drug discovery programs in academia and industry. Total intake is restricted to 20.
Prerequisites: Master degree in Chemistry/Life science/Bioinformatics and ability to use Linux and Windows operating systems.
Plan of Course: The module is in the form of six lecture sessions of 90 minutes duration and five full day labs to provide hands on experience in cheminformatics tools (see detailed time table at the IBAB website www.ibab.ac.in)
Course Outline: Analyzing and handling chemical data, Cheminformatics open-source software tools and publicly available databases, Virtual screening, Quantitative Structure–Activity Relationships (QSAR).
